This is our family tradition...one of many.
We sing happy birthday then at the end of "happy birthday to you..." we all sing "how old are you?"
The answer is ALWAYS supposed to be your age minus 2 then you sing that age + 2. So Caleb's was SUPPOSED to be "7 + 2"
This year he sang "3 squared"....I know long story and it's not even funny but it's tradition and he created quite the uproar by changing it. The smarty. Really though it was fine and we all were very impressed with his math skilz :-)

The birthday boy...he reminded me all day it was his birthday.
"Mom, can you make me a smiley pancake..it's my birthday!"
"Mom, can you take me to gamestop? It's my birthday!"
Mom, do we REALLY have to do school today? It's my birthday!"
Cake Time!

We gave Caleb the choice this year between a big party or science camp. He chose Science camp! I am so proud of him and the boy he is becoming. God has been so good to us. He is always surprising us with his sensitivity and care for others. Not long ago, as I was driving in the car, the radio tuned to 600 am, a commercial came on talking about the honor of serving in the armed forces. There was rolling music and it was quite beautiful. I looked back and Caleb was crying, tears rolling down his cheeks. He told me "Mom, that commercial just made my heart feel something about how those soldiers take care of our country. I can't believe they do that." I was blown away to say the least and it made my heart stir to see the Lord's obvious tug on his heart to care about people. What a blessing!
Tonight we ate pizza and root beer and played outside together while the sun started to set. I love this time of year!
